How do I get started? Start by building short term goals that would include
a commitment to attend 'X' meetings - say two months. Also, read basic SMART
literature. Most important, start listening to the competing voices in your
head. This program builds up the rational voice that points out the problems
from continued use ,and disputes the enemy voice that encourages us to use.
Lastly, make a short term commitment to sobriety (or long term if you are
ready) so that you can think clearly while working on recovery. Build on concrete things like developing a Vital Absorbing Creative Interest. In SMART we prefer to quickly focus on progress and positive goals. When "recovery" feels good we are much more likely to continue. YES! There are methods and tools that anyone can use to actually create good feelings during recovery from the effects of past addictive choices! And they are all rational, practical, and legal, too! |
