We assume that there are degrees of addictive behavior. All individuals, to some degree or other, experience addictive behavior. For some individuals the negative consequences of addictive behavior become so great that change becomes highly desirable

SMART is a group of individuals who have been shown a better way to deal with behavior problems. SMART methods work on a very wide range of addictive behaviours which may or may not involve habit forming substances.

For example
Alcohol - hard drugs - painkillers - soft drugs - inhalents - smoking - gambling - sex addiction - internet chat addiction - overeating

These behaviors and substances are the symptoms. SMART goes directly to the cause.
SMART methods are not linked to a specific type of addiction but to a specific type of creature - a human being - an individual - possibly YOU
