Managing thoughts, feelings, behaviors,

In SMART the ultimate authority is ---Reason and Scientific Knowledge.----

We do not encourage the use of Labels such as alcoholic or addict...
However you may use them if you like.

SMART believes that YOU are NOT simply your behavior. You are much more complex.

We ask you to be patient with yourself, but persistent.

It takes time to learn to deal with everyday hassles without relying on addictive behavior.

Most Importantly...SMART believes that people are largely responsible for their own behavior.

Outside events or people do Not CAUSE your distress...

Your Internal thoughts or beliefs play a large part.

Since they are Your Beliefs... You Can Change Them

We encourage you to attend meetings for as long as they are helpful.

If you lapse or relapse...come discuss what happened

In that way we learn the skills of how to prevent them.

Self Management is a Skill, skills take effort and practice.

SMART support groups are different from psychotherapy.
The SMART meetings and related web sites may in no way be construed as psychotherapy
or any other type of professional mental health service
